Its been a long since lots of experts are debating this topic and this is one of the hot topics even for debates competitions. Why Indians not excelling in the sports and games? Here I myself being a football player in my college days and a passionate follower of most of the popular sports, wants to look back at my experiences and would like to give a sincere , bold and straight forward analysis.
Experts lists lots of reasons like lack of infrastructure, poverty, Politics and even weather, but these reasons are only secondary.
The primary reason is that - This scenario is because of the non involvement and lack of interest of the opposite sex for a particular game. Women not interested in cheering when men are playing and men not there in the place to cheer for the women players.
What is the motivation in playing a sport and winning, Money ? recognition ? status ? or All?
Lets take the case of cricket which is unarguably the most popular and the only game India have at least 50 % chance of being a world champion. Its heartening to see a large crowd for an international cricket match and lots of beautiful girls /women cheering the players. And this could be attributed to India's successes. But the sad fact is that when you see a domestic competition or even a college tournament you cant find a good girl crowd or atleast one girl to watch or cheer the players.
The fact I want to stress is the motivation for the players to perform and excel is minimal even if you give them a hefty price money when there is not one to see the game and appreciate it.
I have my personal experience while playing my football that when the girls are there in the ground, the level and standard of the game improves drastically. We used to get amazed by seeing some of the real skills of our team members. If I remember this has happened only for one game we have played that too we forced the girls to come to the ground.
So the inference is that women are the catalysts for the performances what ever be the sport. If someone really wants to improve the state of the sports and games in India let them encourage (may be by giving free tickets or free gifts) to the women in coming to the stadiums or grounds to encourage and cheer the players. Some one should try to educate women on the sports like football, cricket etc. I could also suggest a campaign from Sports department of India to tell women that watching and encouraging a sport in interesting than watching a Bollywood Masala.
And those who read this blog don't ever forget to blame the women for the sad state of Indian sports
Chak De India!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
